Presentation Details

Tim Grey will share tips and techniques to help you define a streamlined and effective workflow for keeping your photos organized. The event will include presentations on the following topics:

Workflow with Your Camera: Your workflow for organizing photos can start before you even get back to your computer after capturing photos. You can often leverage features of your camera to help get started organizing photos as part of the process of creating new images. This presentation will highlight some of these capabilities, so you can start your organizational workflow as early as possible.

Storage Planning: You obviously need a place to store your photos, and that could mean needing significant storage capacity as your library of photos grows. In this presentation Tim will share recommendations for making the fundamental decisions about where your photos are stored.

Folder Structure Strategy: It makes sense to organize your photos on a hard drive using a folder structure, but how you define that folder structure can have a significant impact on the efficiency of your workflow and your ability to find photos later. In this presentation you'll get tips for defining a folder structure strategy that will help you stay organized while avoiding clutter and confusion.

Beyond the Folder: In addition to using folders as a basic tool for organizing photos, software such as Lightroom Classic enables you to group photos together in other ways, such as with collections and smart collections. In this presentation you'll learn about these options, and how you can put them to use for a workflow that goes beyond the folder structure.

Leveraging Import in Lightroom Classic: If you're using Lightroom Classic to manage your photos, it can be tremendously helpful to make full use of the import feature to get your photos as organized as possible right from the start. This presentation will help you better understand all the tools available for an organized import of your photos into Lightroom Classic.

Identifying Favorites and Outtakes: Some of the photos you capture you will consider favorite images, and some will be considered outtakes that you're not likely to use for any purpose. A streamlined and consistent workflow for identifying your favorites versus outtakes can help you reduce clutter and make your best photos easy to find. In this presentation you'll get tips for using some unique ways to identify your favorites and outtakes quickly, resulting in better organization in your workflow.

Keywording Strategy: To be sure, keywording is not a task that many of us look forward to performing. However, a good keywording strategy can make it easier to locate specific photos and also to remind yourself of the contents of a particular image. This session will provide you with tips and insights to help you make the most of keywords in your workflow.

Location Metadata: If the location where you capture your photos is meaningful, documenting that information can be very helpful, both for locating specific photos and being reminded of where they were captured. In this presentation you'll learn about some of the options for adding location information to your photos, including completely automated approaches as well as manual options.

Organize for Search: The whole point of organizing your photos in the first place is to be able to find your photos later. In fact, knowing how to find photos can even impact some of your decisions about your organizational workflow. In this presentation you'll learn about some of the many ways you can search for photos, which can help inform your decisions about getting organized in the first place.
